Syrups
By using sugar or honey as a preservative you can turn any herbal infusion, decoction or tincture into a syrup. You can use herbal syrups to help sooth coughs, sore throats & other common respiratory ailments.
- First make an infusion, decoction or tincture & strain.
- For every pint of liquid add one pound of unrefined sugar or honey.
- Stir mixture in a saucepan and boil until sugar or honey has dissolved completely. The mixture is now a syrup.
- Let syrup cool completely.
- Store syrup in dark, glass bottles capped with a cork or other non-sealing lid*.
- Store in refrigerator.
*It is very important not to keep syrups tightly sealed. As the syrup ferments, gases may cause the bottle to explode.
